The Lake District

A trip before the trip

Last week we headed off to the lakes for a few days, some good preparation for next week’s travels and to celebrate Sera’s cousin Laura’s wedding.

The first couple of nights we stayed in Church Stile Campsite in Nether Wasdale. A mile from the campsite was Wastwater Lake, surrounded by the famous Screes and Scafell Pike on one side and a small scenic road up to Wasdale Head on the other side. We decided to tackle the Screes Walk, described on one website as “the worst mile of walking in the whole of the lake district”, I would say the description was pretty accurate.

Thursday it was off to Cockermouth via Whitehaven. A nice night in Cockermouth trying to avoid the sun after catching a bit too much in the previous days walk.

On Friday we headed to Keswick for the wedding, at a great location right on the south end of Derwent Water.

Saturday we headed for Coniston, over the Kirkstone Pass. We parked up for the night in the local football club, good location and facilities.

Now for the big one next week!
